Membership growth of 45% and a record in lending has seen Metro Moneywise Credit Union shortlisted for a local business of the year award.
The Rochdale Business Awards were established in 2011 to celebrate the achievements of business and business people within Rochdale Borough.
Shortlisted in the category, ‘Business of the Year - Turnover £1m-£5m’, CEO of Metro Moneywise Credit Union, Ciara Davies said: “Everyone at Metro Moneywise is delighted with this year’s nomination. The annual event is organised and sponsored by local businesses, so we’re delighted to be chosen by those from the community we serve.”
The judges will consider businesses operating in any commercial or industrial sector but are looking for evidence of success in finding new import/export opportunities, new product/service development and/or new production techniques. The judges are also asking businesses to demonstrate the local economic, social and environmental benefit that their business provides.
In July of this year, following a busy summer period, the employee-based credit union broke a record in its lending, after approving a total of £390,000 worth of loans. On top of that in the last year, membership of the credit union has risen by 45% compared to last year and a 40% increase in its loan book.
Ciara added: “I’d like to thank all Staff & Board from past & present for their dedicated service to the credit union over the years. Without them, this fantastic achievement would not be possible. We look forward to the awards ceremony next month and good luck to all nominated.”
