To coincide with International Credit Union Day, Bradford District Credit Union (BDCU) has launched ‘Surviving Christmas’, at its ‘Build a Better World’ conference, last week.
In partnership with Welfare Reform Impact Bradford (WRIB) and the Anti-Poverty Events Group, the conference welcomed over 120 faith, community, voluntary and statutory practitioners for an information and knowledge exchange aimed at tackling poverty in the lead up to Christmas.
“Surviving Christmas will be a series of community events to highlight the dangers of loan sharks and how to manage money in the lead up to Christmas,” says Financial Inclusion Officer at BDCU, Ian Brewer. “As Christmas approaches, for thousands of local families, this time of year can be marred by acute financial stress. Our series roadshow events will give help and support families need.”
The Anti-Poverty Events Group is a partnership that supports residents achieve financial wellness; avoid loan sharks, get help and make safer financial choices.
“It was fantastic to host 120 professionals at Build a Better World, last week. I’m delighted to be part of a movement where local organisations collaborate and strive to improve the community we serve,” Ian added.
BDCU also recently secured funding from the Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) to put on nine ‘Loan Sharks Are Monsters’ Halloween events around the district, as part of The IMLT’S anti-poverty agenda to help residents achieve financial wellness; avoid loan sharks, get help and make safer financial choices.#News
