Earlier in the year, two ABCUL members won complimentary passes to attend this year’s World Credit Union Conference, in the Bahamas. Helen Wilman from Stockport Credit Union and Pauline Smaje from Enterprise Credit Union made the journey last week and took advantage of the invaluable opportunities the conference offers.
Pauline Smaje from Enterprise Credit Union said engaging with credit union colleagues from across 61 countries who share the same passion and belief in what they do was “truly an amazing experience.”
Pauline added: “From the start, to finish I was totally in awe of, and in many cases overwhelmed by the sheer number of people in attendance. It was amazing to see people from credit unions all shapes and sizes coming together to learn and share in what can only be described as a wonderful and warm environment.
“To engage with so many people who are so passionate about credit unions and strongly believe in what they do was amazing. I found the workshops and keynote speakers inspirational and it made me realise how fast we are moving forward within this digital world.”
Manager of Stockport Credit Union, Helen Wilman was attending the conference for her first time and would recommend anyone to attend if the opportunity is there. Helen added: “To see over 2,100 passionate credit unions leaders come together and unite over similar shared experience from their credit unions, was inspiring.
“I attended the WOCCU Young Credit Union Professionals presentation and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm from the five representatives of the youth credit union movement on stage, who each came from very different parts of the world, but we're united with the same passion.”
Attending WCUC for his first time as ABCUL Chief Executive, Robert Kelly said: “It was an absolute pleasure to attend the 2019 World Credit Union Conference as ABCUL CEO, in the Bahamas. The Association is a proud member of WOCCU and will continue to collaborate and benefit from the shared learning experiences the conference offers in future years.
“The delegation of British credit unions who travelled to this year’s conference has been fantastic representatives of their respected credit unions and our sector as a whole. The opportunity to network with our counterparts across the globe and listen to the expert range of speakers within the credit union movement is invaluable for attendees. You could see their knowledge, expertise and confidence grow by being part of such a dynamic event.”
This year’s conference offered top-class educational sessions on key topics, with the main focus on leadership, cybersecurity, digital technologies and the economy. Catch up on all the events from the World Credit Union Conference by clicking here.
