Aimee Hastings - 1st Class Credit Union

Aimee Hastings - 1st Class Credit Union

I am a Loans Officer and temporary Compliance Officer and I have worked at 1st Class Credit Union for 5 years. I have completed the CU Futures course and have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to develop my role within my credit union. My main highlights would be attending WOCCU in 2016 and the Global Youth Summit that took place in 2020!

Why did you first get involved in credit unions?

I always knew I would look for a career in finance and came across the opportunity to work for 1st Class Credit Union after leaving university. I did have some knowledge of credit unions as my mum and gran are both members of one, so after doing more research, I became really interested in how credit unions are member focused, so I decided to apply!

Why did you choose to be part of the YPN Steering Committee?

After completing the CU Futures Course, the YPN was a great opportunity to continue to engage with fellow YPs within the credit union sector. A network for young professionals is really important as it not only gives you the chance to gain knowledge and training within your sector, but also grants you the chance to meet new people and make lifelong friends.

Why is the YPN important to you?

The network is important to me as it gives me the sense of belonging to a group within the sector. Without the network, I would not have had opportunities to meet the people I have met as I struggle with introducing myself to others.

What have you gained from being a member of the YPN Steering Committee?

I have gained confidence in that I can speak to others that I have met through the network. I have gained knowledge from people within and out with the sector by attending the events that the YPN have hosted.

What advice would you give to people considering wanting to get involved in the YPN?

100% go for it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
