Double Silver Celebrations for Plane Saver Credit Union- Awarded Army Silver Covenant
07 Dec 18
Plane Saver Credit Union has received the Army Covenant Silver Award as part of the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Employer Recognition scheme.
The award has been given to the Plane Saver Credit Union in recognition of their commitment to support Armed Forces personnel, their families and veterans.
The Army Covenant scheme, now in its 5th year, encourages employers to support Armed Forces and inspire other organisations to do the same. Plane Saver joined 11 other London based organisations to receive their awards at a ceremony on 26th November at the RAF Museum.
Plane Saver CEO, Valerie Walwyn a veteran of the Armed Forces, commented: "Winning this award is a great honour. Plane Saver is proud to be awarded the Armed Forces Covenant.
“The Service personnel form a large part of our credit union membership and we are proud to serve those who serve. What makes the Silver award extra special is that it also comes at a time when we are celebrating 25 years of operating as a Credit Union providing ethical finance solutions to workers in the military and airline industry and now the Armed Forces.
“I'd like to thank the Plane Saver team for their efforts and hard work to ensure that we continually deliver a high-quality service for our members”.
Commenting on the announcement of the 2018 Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Awards, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans, the Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MP said:
“I am delighted to congratulate the recipients of this year’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver awards. A Silver award recognises the fantastic efforts of employers throughout the UK who have both elevated their commitments under the Armed Forces Covenant and provided actual benefit to the Armed Forces Community.
“The winners should all be proud of the life-changing impact and fresh opportunities they are providing to our Reservists, veterans, wounded injured and sick and their families. We’ve seen a record number of winners this year, which shows that the Armed Forces family talent pool is also providing tangible business benefit.”
In celebration of the award and to mark their 25th anniversary, staff from past and present will reflect on 25 years of service to their members at a special event this evening. President of Plane Saver, Ian Atkins addressed members in a special anniversary report, Ian said: “As we celebrate our 25th year, not much has changed in that we still go that extra mile for our members and we still help people to save and provide affordable loans.
“I am proud to say that this simple message has helped us to grow so that today we are one of the largest Credit Unions in the UK. We shouldn’t forget our founding members of course – without their support, help and ambition we wouldn’t be here today".
