Throughout Credit Union Awareness Week, the Greater Manchester credit union consortium ‘SoundPound’ launched its joint marketing campaign ‘You’re better off with us’.
In lead up to International Credit Union Day, adverts designed to show the benefits of joining a credit union appeared on local buses, trams, trains and a digital advertising billboard at one of the regions busiest road junctions.
Local MP’s, councillors and the Mayor of Salford all pledged their support of the campaign on social media and each credit union carried out local events to reinforce the idea that you are better off with a credit union. Also, Hollywood actor, Michael Sheen visited Manchester Credit Union in the city centre this month to show his support for the campaign and to further his mission to end high-cost credit’.
In 2016, the consortium of Salford, Manchester, Unify, Hoot, Oldham, South Manchester, Cashbox and Stockport credit unions came together to form SoundPound. Chief Executive of South Manchester Credit Union believes that by collaborating together credit unions can have a single voice that strengthens the work within its community, Sheenagh says: “We know that individual credit unions within Greater Manchester are all passionate about promoting the benefits of credit union membership and by co-operating together we have a much stronger impact on raising awareness”.
More than 50,000 people in Greater Manchester are members of one of the SoundPound partners, currently borrowing over £14 million. Members also currently hold savings of over £24 million with SoundPound Credit Unions.
Back in June, SoundPound celebrated their Social Value Award from the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce for outstanding contribution to the skills and learning in businesses across Greater Manchester.
